Food & Wine Classic & OnLine Auction Bring Needed Funding at this Critical Time

The proceeds from the events of August 8-11 will do much to boost the Clinic’s ability to handle the almost 20% increase in patient visits we have seen in the first half of this year, including a 26% increase in new patients!

From the Grand Tasting at the Canyons to the seminars indoors and on the trails, the Food and Wine Classic was a hit! And thanks to the generosity of bidders, the premiere PHC Online Auction proved to be a great success. Bidders from across the U.S. snapped up fantastic trips, services and other items at great prices. Thanks too to all of our supporters who so generously donated items to the auction—without them ….

Popular Event Will Benefit PHC

Gourmet strolls on Main and at The Canyons….. Grilling at The Waldorf-Astoria Park City….. a Summer Soiree in Old Town… Tastings and Seminars …a weekend of summertime fun!

In its 6th year, the Classic has chosen People’s Health and the Park City Foundation as beneficiaries . Three days of seminars, strolls, dinners, and outdoor activities is planned. Find details and purchase tickets at: www.parkcityfoodandwineclassic.com.

In the Saturday event listings, consider “Cooking with Kieffer”. This 10:00 a.m. seminar by Executive Chef and creator of www.healingpalate.ning.com Jason Kieffer explores how food delights the body, mind and spirit. Proceeds go to PHC.

An online auction will also benefit the Clinic and Park City Foundation – with items ranging from a 7-night villa stay on Ambergris Caye in Belize to tickets to the 2011 Masters Golf Tournament practice rounds. The idea of pregnant women not receiving full-term prenatal care was completely unacceptable to the founders of People’s Health Clinic. So, since PHC’s earliest days, your donations have ensured that prenatal care has been available to the uninsured

women in our area. Women who see a health care provider regularly during pregnancy have healthier babies, are less likely to deliver prematurely, and are less likely to have other serious problems related to pregnancy.

Currently at PHC, three volunteer Certified Nurse Midwives care for patients on Wednesdays. One of them, Annette Johnson, recently spoke on PCTV’s Wellness Wednesdays.

The Park City Food & Wine Classic is coming up July 8 – 11, and PHC is a major beneficiary this year. Hear Patti Peters, PHC Volunteer Coordinator, discuss some of the volunteer opportunities. To learn more about volunteering or attending the great events and seminars, go to the event website.
Hear Dr. Bob Pellegrine, PHC Medical Director, discuss the Clinic’s new emphasis on
wellness exams. It’s part of PHC’s effort to create a healthy community by encouraging uninsured residents to come in for medical screening – to prevent illnesses like diabetes and hypertension from developing.

2010 Cocktail Contest Toasts PHC

The Sky Lodge’s Açai Sour was the winning cocktail at this year’s contest at Wahso on April 8th, but People’s Health was the big winner! The Restaurant Association raised $1800 that night, then tacked on another $500 for a total donation this year of $2,300. This is the fourth year People’s Health has been the beneficiary.

According to Kevin Valaika, Association Chair, “We felt it was very important for us to support the Clinic for our employees. A good percentage of the people who visit the Clinic work in our local restaurants.”

In addition to the support PHC receives from this annual event, approximately 20 local restaurants have signed up over the past several years to be PHC Restaurant Partners, making a cash donation to help the Clinic’s operating budget. For its part, the Clinic supplies them with Clinic flyers and updates on medical services and education opportunities. Wishing to helping their employees with health insurance while trying to thrive in this tough economic market, these restaurant owners see their relationship with PHC as a way to offer some assistance.

But…………back to the party! Wahso put on a great evening with appetizers included in the $10 entry fee, and partyers could purchase some of the cocktails in contention. Eddie Schneckloth proudly carried the trophy home to The Sky Lodge. Get the recipe for the Açai Sour and watch a video of the Contest here!
